Over the last 10 years COGEN has developed a specific energy management, operation and maintenance model for Co-Generation plants, which ensures maximum availability and performance of the equipment and optimum operation from an economic perspective.
COGEN currently manages several operating Co-generation plants, in which we have implemented our model, attaining a reduction in the stoppage time of the engines, an improvement in the power availability and a reduction of the plant operating costs.

COGEN has an Operation and Maintenance Department that supervises, supports and coordinates all the Co-generation Plants it operates. This Department has its own structure, designed for the successful running of the Plants, with a qualified, experienced and competent workforce and the necessary equipment and materials.
The operation, maintenance and management of the Co-generation Plants include the following concepts:
Permanent presence of operators in the plant. The operator carries out the basic operating tasks for the co-generation plant; they implement the necessary control procedures and routines for the successful operation of the plant, such as: equipment log, maintenance charts, and specific charts for the plant.
Predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance of the co-generation plant, with particular emphasis on the first option to minimise costs as well as ensuring as much availability as possible. This maintenance includes the generator units (turbines and engines), heat recovery equipment, high pressure and low pressure boilers, HV and LV electrical equipment, auxiliary and control equipment, and other plant-specific equipment.
COGEN has the necessary measuring tools and instruments for the correct operation of the plant and its equipment. Diagnostic methods:
The preventive maintenance tasks are based on the intervals recommended by the equipment manufacturers for their correct operation. Preventive maintenance tasks on a minor scale for the generators are done by the plant operators, with the support of the COGEN specialists. For large revisions of the units, COGEN has the necessary human and material resources for this purpose, and cooperation agreements with the manufacturers if needed or requested by the client.
The plant operators are in charge of the small breakdowns that equipment may suffer. COGEN is prepared to repair any breakdown as quickly as possible.
Plants have a distance surveillance and supervision system, centralised at the respective subsidiary offices of COGEN, achieving greater control of the operation of the plants and speeding up the solution of possible anomalies.
The plants have a sufficient stock of spare parts to minimise their downtime resulting from the breakdown of generator units, and for the correct operation of the installation and maintenance of the equipment. Plants also have a computer system to control all the component elements, management of stocks and spare parts.
Management of the plants, including agreements and contracts for fuel, suppliers, subcontractors, insurance, and the possibility of managing the generated electrical energy on the free market. The maintenance stoppages are also planned and coordinated to minimise their economic impact.
On a monthly basis, COGEN does an overall balance sheet, jointly setting out the technical and economic parameters. They draw up a detailed study of the electricity and thermal production, plant availability, performance of each unit, consumption, equivalent electricity yield of the plant, running costs, operating and maintenance costs, and other costs associated with the operation of the plant. In this way, the possible deviations can be analysed with precision, and their causes identified.
Management of the necessary inspection in accordance with current legislation.
If tenders for the generated energy have to be presented, these offers are managed before the market operator.
Administration, cleaning, controlling access, loading and unloading, surveillance of the installations, etc.
